Settling In from Gerry - July 18

Things are coming together here.  The boys are going to summer camp during the week and are all signed up for school in the fall.  It's actually my old parish and Catholic grade school....hopefully my old teachers are gone since they may still hold some grudges!! ;)

The house is still showing and the inside looks great according to the agent.

I'll keep you posted [on events as they happen].

NBC 17 News Story  Interview with Suzanne FitzGerald on NBC 17. Article w/video

Doctors Offer Suzanne Limited Time

In June of 2006, shortly after the birth of her second child, Suzanne was diagnosed with stage 3 rectal cancer. Battling the cancer with radiation and chemotherapy almost killed her. In November of 2007, she was re-diagnosed with the aggressive cancer which now had metastasized to her lungs, legs, and three tumors in her brain with one behind her face.

In February, 2008, the doctors at Duke University sadly gave Suzanne, at best, about four months left on this earth.  They concurred that chemotherapy this time around would offer no guarantee of an extension of her lifespan due to its aggressive nature.  They thought it best also that she spent this precious time with her family. Hospice of Durham has been working with the family on a weekly basis since this heartbreaking news hit.  They have been nothing less than wonderful and she is being kept comfortable through medication and oxygen at night.

The "Suzanne FitzGerald Fund" group consists of committed friends, family, and even compassionate strangers who have come together to spread the word on this courageous woman.  We are trying to raise money so we can take some of the financial burden off the FitzGerald family while they are in crisis.  By herself, Suzanne is not currently able to care for her 4 year and 3 year old children, so a childcare provider must be hired to help her.  This is an expense that Gerry, her husband and sole provider, never thought he would have to consider in the family budget.  He never planned he would be living this nightmare, and this all-to-real nightmare is costing him quite a bit.

Helping this family pay for the childcare costs will allow Suzanne and Gerry less financial burden so they may take that stressful energy and turn it into positive moments together.  We would love nothing more than to show Suzanne how much she and her family are lifted, prayed for, and supported through donations while she is still with us.  We also want to give her the reassurance that if her time comes to an end on earth, her family will be well cared for during their darkest time.

Suzanne needs rest and medication constantly, but most importantly, to hug, kiss and be with her sons and husband as much as possible before her time with us on earth ends.

Our mission of this website is two-fold:

  1. Encourage prayers and provide options for those wanting to help the FitzGerald family in crisis.

  2. Expose the early signs and dangers of colorectal cancer so no one else has to say goodbye too soon to their loved ones.

From Gerry FitzGerald

I would like to thank everyone for the prayers and support that have been extended to our family during this horrible time. The community has rallied behind Suzanne and pulled together in ways we could never imagine. We couldn't have ended up in a better place! I look forward to keeping you posted on Suzanne's battle.

Support from Friends and Family

Suzanne’s family is very thankful and sincerely appreciates the thoughtfulness of all those who have come her to family’s aid during this traumatic, sad, and stressful time. She feels surrounded by love from people she will probably never meet and is overwhelmed by the graciousness from total strangers.

She remains positive and cherishes every moment she has with family and friends. She welcomes any prayers for her cancer to go into remission so she can have more time raising her little boys.

Suzanne encourages everyone to live life to the fullest!
